My BEST build EVER and how I did it!
We all do it. We all dream about one day being able to make what we want to make without compromising or taking design decisions from a client. Its one thing to do that while you have a job and another to do that as your job. Is the dream sustainable? Probably not, but I had to try nonetheless. This video goes out to everyone who dreams big and isn't afraid to bet on themselves no matter the risk. This is 3 months of resources from me with no buyer for the piece. Will it sell, or will my family suffer even more sacrifice? Only one can be true.
Please send me an email if you are an interested buyer. Your purchase would be a contribution to the craft and the dream of an artist being able to ...

Where can I buy the soap finish? Depending on the wood/grain, Osmo and Rubio both make finished with lighteners in them that do an ok job of preserving light wood color. It's technically stain, but since all finishes amber wood, I don't really see the difference between a stain and a finish. I guess that's a different approach than trying to pass off poplar as cocobolo though...

Metal fab isn’t “the easiest thing”. Yeah you cut, grind and weld but in order to be a good fabricator, you should know most of the processes of welding and how to weld different metals at different thickness. You should know how to machine, what you call “metal milling”, using a lathe and a mill. Have experience cutting with a grinder, different saws, oxy fuel, plasma. Also, you should be knowledgeable in metal finishing. Anyway, you probably get the picture and on top of all that, you have to know how to install what you make, whether it’s furniture or architectural.

Like you, I spent resources on a can of each of the market leaders....did a bit of 'research' and bought a lab hotplate on Amazon for $50. Spent another $100 on a couple pounds of hard wax, pine resin and a quart of Limonene solvent. Had a can of Linseed oil. I've now got the makings for all the hard wax oil I'm going to need for a good long while. The sheen is adjustable by how much pine resin one uses. I also got some Japan Dryer and a small bottle of Cobalt....but have not found any info yet on just how to use them to hasten the curing time. I'm not doing work for clients, so cure time between coats is no problem. -Veteran '66-68

Thanks for making this video and doing the tests. I’m a guitar maker (electric guitars) and I’ve seen people use the brass inserts in guitar necks as a means of attaching them to the guitar bodies. I know it’s a tried and tested thing but there has always been a doubt in the back of my mind that they may fail. I have pondered it for too long but you have helped me decide that I could use them but also that I could tap the holes into the guitar neck. I feel an experiment of my own coming on. I think the inserts are also available in steel, maybe stainless. Thanks again, you have a new follower. ✊
